Outrigger Canoing - San Francisco & the Big Island of Hawaii

Outrigger Canoe is not only popular in Hawaii, it's a growing sport on the mainland.  I started canoing with the Keauhou Outrigger Canoe Club on the big island of Hawaii a few years ago.  When I got back to San Francisco, I was looking for that "connection" to Hawaii between my travels, and I discovered the San Francisco Outrigger Canoe Club.  Since then, I've been involved as a 1st-year Novice paddler and in fact, our team was undefeated this year (!).  If you want to try out outrigger, just 2-blocks away from my condo at Keauhou Palena, you can visit the club.  The recreational padddling schedule is Tuesday, Thursday and Satruday mornings at 6:30 a.m. - a perfect way to start your day, meet some neat people, swim with the dolphins, and watch the sunrise or the VOG from Kilauea Volcano creep up over the mountains.  It's absolutely spectacular!
